Statement of Purpose: To
improve the health of the community by providing information and educational
programs, which will empower individuals to make informed decisions, and to
undertake action regarding their health.
Tobacco Prevention Programs: The
levels of tobacco use among the citizens of Barberton, and Summit County, are
higher than the national level of tobacco use for all age ranges.

 | Summit County Tobacco Prevention Coalition: The
Barberton Health District is the lead agency for the Coalition, a
collaborative effort of 20 community agencies. Coalition offers countywide
tobacco prevention and cessation programs. To learn more about the

Tobacco Merchant Compliance Checks: It
is is illegal in Ohio for any merchant to sell tobacco products to anyone
under the age of 18. Compliant checks completed in cooperation with
Barberton and Norton Police Departments, with prosecution of those in
violation of the law, are intended to reduce youth access to tobacco
products. |

Fresh Start Family Smoking Cessation:
Clients in the Health District's Prenatal Clinic receive individual
counseling from a Community Health Educator on the risks of tobacco use
during pregnancy, quitting assistance. |

Fit
Kids Project: Free after school and summer program providing non
competitive physical activities and nutrition education to middle school
aged students.
