Statement of Purpose: To prevent disease and to promote and maintain the
quality health and well being of the citizens in the Barberton Health
District (BHD). To provide nursing services through department-based
clinics, outreach, and community-based programs which will be delivered in
a professional, compassionate and confidential manner.
Immunization Clinics:
Offers low
cost immunizations to children and adolescents. Payment on a sliding fee
scale based on income is available. No one will be turned away due to
inability to pay.
Walk-in
clinic available Thursday 8:30am to 11:30am. Appointments for Summit
County children under 2 years of age are available on Tuesday 1:00pm -

Pregnancy Testing:
Available
Monday - Friday, by appointment. Confidential testing. Call (330) 861-7269.
Prenatal Care:
Comprehensive
prenatal care offered to women residing in Summit County. Services
available are medical examination by board-certified
Obstetrician/Gynecologist, nutritional assessment, counseling, and
laboratory testing. Group education topics including breast-feeding, labor
and delivery, and infant care.
WIC Program
(Women, Infants, and Children):
A food
supplement program for pregnant women and post-partum mothers up to six
months after delivery if not breastfeeding, and up to one year if
breastfeeding. Children eligible until five years of age.
Eligibility is according to age, income, and nutritional need. Call for

BCMH (Bureau
for Children with Medical Handicaps):
The Ohio
Department of Health contracts with the Barberton Health District to help
identify children in Barberton and Norton who have special health care
needs. If a child has a chronic medical condition, or a suspected
medical need, please contact the District at (330) 861-7172 for further
information.

Welcome Home Program:
Provides home
visits after delivery for new mothers and babies. Provides home
visits by Public Health Nurses after delivery of a baby at no charge.
The nurse provides assessment of both the mother and infant, as well as
education and answers to questions on a variety of health topics from
breastfeeding to newborn care. Call (330) 861-7269.
Prevention/Control of
Communicable Diseases:
Investigates reportable communicable
diseases and implements control measures to maintain public health.

Immunization Coalition of
Summit County: (Website)
Vaccine-preventable
diseases of children are at record lows, but our goal to ensure that all
children have full and long term protection is still a challenge. The
effort to educate new caregivers must continue due to the great risk
associated with under-immunization.
Lead Program:
Screening for
elevated blood lead levels on uninsured children ages 6 months to 6
years. Public health nurses teach prevention techniques to parents
and make referrals to support agencies. Call (330) 861-7269.
Flu Clinics:
Offered
seasonally, October through March. For times and locations of

Tuberculosis Testing:
